Hytale Chapter 1: the October 12 release

Hytale Chapter 1 releases on October 12, 2026. It is the game's first chapter — the stable version of the Update 7 cycle — and it adds the first handcrafted dungeon, the Gobliterator boss, the goblin faction, the Goblin Breach world event and the Rune Abilities system. It is a free update: everyone who owns Hytale Early Access receives it automatically.

What Chapter 1 is

Chapters are the large content drops on top of Hytale's regular stable updates. Early Access will run six to seven of them, each themed around a faction, together telling the Cursebreaker story arc that leads to the full 1.0 release. Chapter 1 is the goblin chapter, and it is the largest content drop since Early Access began on January 13, 2026.

The date was announced by the official Hytale account on September 24, 2026, with a 47-second trailer. No launch hour has been published — only the date. Parts of Chapter 1 have been arriving on the pre-release channel since early September; the dungeon and the boss fight are deliberately held back for launch day.

What's inside Chapter 1

FeatureWhat it means for you
The first handcrafted dungeonEngine rooms, machinery, puzzle sections, loot cages and a final coliseum arena full of goblins. Entry is gated by a machine you feed scrap to (the pre-release build asks for 10).
The GobliteratorThe game's first multi-phase boss — a goblin war machine, with a hard mode the studio describes as very difficult.
Goblin factionA full mob roster: scrappers, miners, lobbers, burners, shield-carrying guardians and the feast master, plus friendly goblins in the goblin hub.
Goblin BreachA world-event portal that opens near you and is marked on the map; through it lies a fragment of the goblin world with void mobs, regenerating on each visit and limited by the veil of void.
Rune AbilitiesAbility runestones (Chain Hook, Charged Shot, Ground Slam, Wind Strike, Enrage, Fireball) plus modifier runestones that change how each ability behaves. Runes attach to weapons; tools get a separate upgrade system later.
Goblin gadgetsRocket boots, glider, hookshot, drill, dynamite and spyglass — crafted at the goblin tinkerer's workbench, which must be powered, not only placed.
Carrying systemTreasure chests and explosive barrels can be picked up and carried by hand.
Combat reworkFoundational combat changes, a full weapon rebalance, and a visible mana bar for rune abilities.
Mini-games tabFourteen mini-games of 60 to 120 seconds each, with peer-to-peer and dedicated hosting — the studio's first game modes outside Exploration and Creative.

The update tracker holds the same list in patch-history form, including what each pre-release part shipped and when.

Can you play Chapter 1 before October 12?

Partly, yes — through the pre-release channel. The studio's own pre-release notes invite you to begin Chapter 1 content by visiting the Forgotten Temple, which becomes the chapter's hub and stays relevant for later chapters too.

  1. Open the Hytale Launcher and go to Settings.
  2. Enable Pre-Release and let the launcher download the test build (the pre-release channel is currently on 0.7.0-pre.4; the stable channel is on 0.6.8).
  3. Visit the Forgotten Temple in your world to begin the Chapter 1 opening.

Two warnings. First, the dungeon and the Gobliterator are deliberately absent from pre-release — the studio is keeping the boss fight away from public testing, so nobody, including streamers, can practice it before launch day. Second, a pre-release build is a test build: expect unfinished parts, and report problems instead of trusting them. Do not run your main world or your public server on it.

How to prepare before launch day

If you want to enter the dungeon on October 12 with everything you need, the pre-release build shows what the new content consumes:

  • Collect scrap now. Goblin content uses it heavily: the dungeon entrance machine wants scrap (10 in the current build), goblins drop it when defeated, and the goblin tinkerer's workbench that crafts the gadgets consumes more of it.
  • Back up your world and your server before updating. Chapter 1 changes combat, goblin AI and world generation — the three categories most likely to break older mods. The server update guide has the full backup-then-replace procedure.
  • Server owners: schedule the maintenance window now and tell your community in advance, on Discord and in-game. Chapter 1 also brings returning players — expect an unusually high number of players joining on and after October 12.
  • Mod users: review your mod list before updating. Anything that changes combat, AI or world generation is the category most likely to need an update from its author first.

The $15,000 Gobliterator challenge

Within an hour of the date announcement, Simon Collins-Laflamme attached a bounty to the launch: $15,000 to the first streamer who kills the Gobliterator — on hard difficulty, in hardcore mode, solo, with no armor, no potions and no glitches, using only the iron weapons available in Exploration Mode. The run must be streamed with a recording that can be checked afterward, and creative mode cannot be used to enter.

The complete rules will be published before Chapter 1 launches. Because the dungeon and boss are held back from pre-release, everyone attempting the bounty starts learning the fight on launch day itself.

Goblin Breach: what pre-release players found

The Goblin Breach is the world event that carries Chapter 1's exploration loop. A portal spawns near you and is marked on the map; goblins come through it, and going the other way enters a fragment of the goblin world. What pre-release players have documented so far:

  • Each visit regenerates. The fragment's layout and encounters differ between visits, so the breach stays repeatable instead of a single clear.
  • The veil of void is the timer. A visit starts at around 10 minutes. A portal console inside the fragment can be repaired, then upgraded with void hearts to extend the time, and clearing traces of the void serves the same purpose.
  • Predator hunting needs the spyglass. Signs point to a hunting ground; the spyglass locates the predator's position in the world, and a placed trap lures it out.
  • Waypoints can be repaired so you can return to a fragment entrance directly, without walking from the Forgotten Temple every time.

These observations come from the pre-release build and can still change in the stable release — treat them as the current state of testing, not as final balance.

Quick answers: Hytale Chapter 1

Is Chapter 1 free?

Yes. The Early Access purchase includes all future updates — there is no season pass and no separate Chapter 1 purchase. The price page covers what each edition costs and what carries over.

Is Chapter 1 the same as Update 7?

Yes. Chapter 1 is the stable release of the Update 7 cycle: everything the pre-release channel has been shipping since early September, plus the dungeon and boss held back for October 12.

What time does Chapter 1 go live?

No launch hour has been published — only the date, October 12, 2026. When a time is announced it will come from official Hytale channels first.

Can I play Chapter 1 right now?

Parts of it, on the pre-release channel (Launcher → Settings → Pre-Release). The dungeon and the Gobliterator are not in any playable build before launch day.

Will my existing world still work?

Your world is not reset — but back it up before updating. New generation features and the Goblin Breach integrate into existing worlds, and server owners should follow the backup-then-replace update procedure.

Is the Gobliterator the hardest boss in the game?

It is the first one. The studio describes its hard mode as very difficult, but it is deliberately an introduction — later chapters get more ambitious fights, and concept bosses the studio has named (dinosaur, void spider, kraken) are candidates for future chapters.
